LIVES OF CHILDREN IN GULU, UGANDA In Uganda, the rebel Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) has been abducting, raping and using children as frontline soldiers for 20 years. More than 30,000 children have been abducted so far. If a child that is too small is abducted, they kill them because they are useless to them or they keep them as sex-slaves. Fear of abduction causes as many as 40,000 children to flee from their rural homes each night. These children are known as "nightwalkers" or "night commuters" because every night they walk to camps for as long as two hours, where they are locked inside of cages, for their protection. Fleeing from the fear of abduction, war, and sexual violence is a daily ritual for these Ugandan children. GIVING BOOKS TO CHILDREN IN NEED! Our goal this year is to give even more books away to children, and we need your help in doing so. By making a donation or purchasing a book and allowing us to give books, you may have changed a child's life forever! You may have introduced him/her to a love of learning, reading, and books. You may have made it possible for him/her to read a message that could change the course of his/her life and give him/her hope for a better tomorrow. There is so much negativity in the world today, let's give children something positive! Purchase a book or make a donation! ALL CHILDREN NEED A LOVING HOME! There are millions of children all over the world without a safe, loving place to call home. Without someone to read them a bedtime story and tuck them in at night. In Ohio, more than 16,000 children are in foster care and more than 1,700 waiting to be adopted. If you can provide a loving, healthy home for a child, maybe fostering or adopting is for you! |

LIVES OF CHILDREN IN DARFUR, SUDAN Due to the genocide going on in Darfur, Sudan, the children there are forced to experience traumatic situations daily. If they have been lucky enough to escape bombs from the government forces and bullets of the Janjaweeds, these children witness continuous rape being committed on their mothers, sisters, and other female relatives and even on them! Girls as young as eight are being raped and used as sex slaves. Like the Ugandan children, these children flee in fear of abduction by government forces and the Janjaweeds. Sexual violence, increasing malnourishment, diseases, and ongoing attacks of the government forces and the Janjaweeds unjustly impose on the daily lives of these Sudanese children. WE NEED CORE GROUP MEMBERS! Whittlewould is currently interviewing volunteers to join our team. We are starting a 'Core Group' to brainstorm on ideas about how Whittlewould can impact children's lives, and then take volunteers out into the world to create change! We are looking for people 18 years of age and older who are open-minded, and willing to learn and perform the task that is asked. We need people who are natural leaders, dedicated, patient, and responsible. You will need to be able to devote a certain amount of time, help manage and lead volunteers and receive constructive criticism. Most importantly, we need people who see giving their time as an opportunity to make a positive contribution to society! Are you in the Northeastern Ohio/ Northwestern PA area, near Youngstown, Ohio and wish to join our 'Core Group'? |
